Three little steps. A better way to read.

01

Pick a passage

Highlight the words you want to hear. A sentence, a paragraph, or a longer selection—it’s up to you.

02

Click Read It

Click the button that appears beside your selection. You can also use the toolbar, right-click menu, or Ctrl+Shift+R.

03

Listen your way

Find your pace, pause when you need to, and follow along on the page with word highlighting when reliable timing is available.

You can change the shortcut from Settings. Your browser may leave it unassigned if another shortcut conflicts.

A voice you actually like

Preview clear female and male voices in five languages. Choose your favorite, or explore the voices your browser already offers.

Your pace, remembered

Slow down for a tricky passage or speed up a long article. Read It, Dude remembers your voice, reading speed, and preferences.

Keep your place

Read along on the original page. Expand the player for a Line or Scroll text display, and turn on word highlighting or auto-scroll when you want them.

Small when you want it

Keep the essentials in a compact player, or expand for more controls. Quiet shades of gray and light, dark, or system appearance keep reading in focus.

A little more to listen to

Choose Read page text for a longer listen, or highlight a new passage to replace the current reading without hunting for Stop.

Reading without distractions

No subscription, ads, analytics, or reading history. Read It, Dude’s own voices generate speech on your device and work offline once ready.

Before your first listen

A few things you might be wondering.

How big is the download?

Edge and Chrome include the Read It, Dude voice files, for an installation download of approximately 248 MB. Firefox starts with an approximately 4 MB extension, then downloads approximately 244 MB of voice-model data after installation. You’ll see progress and can cancel or retry. One setup includes all five languages and both voice presets.

Can I listen offline?

Yes, with Read It, Dude’s own voices after activation and voice setup. Purchased access is saved for offline use; an active trial keeps its original expiry. License checks run periodically when connected. Optional online browser voices may send reading text to their provider. Choose Use only on-device voices in Settings if you prefer local speech only. Learn more in the Privacy Policy.

Will it read any page?

Read It, Dude works with accessible text on ordinary webpages. Browser settings, extension stores, PDFs, and some protected or embedded content aren’t supported. Read page text can include navigation or footer text. Word highlighting depends on reliable timing; speech still plays when individual words can’t be tracked.

Why does the first reading take a moment?

Read It, Dude prepares speech on your computer. You may see Warming up the voice system and Generating the speech before the first audio plays. Preparation depends on your computer and the amount of text.

Can I change Ctrl+Shift+R?

Yes. Open Read It, Dude Settings to configure the shortcut. Edge and Chrome take you to their browser shortcut editor; Firefox supports changing it inside Read It, Dude Settings. A browser conflict can leave the default shortcut unassigned.
